Abstract

Lock-in amplifiers are widely used for electrical characterization in semiconductor technology. Whereas this is a very powerful detection technique, knowledge of the fundamentals of the lock-in is essential in order to benefit from all its detection potential. In this webinar, we will review the fundamentals of the “lock-in” technique, explaining the different stages of lock-in detection (modulation, amplification, mixing, demodulation, and filtering). We will learn particular concepts related to lock-in measurements, such as dynamic reserve, phase-sensitive detection, time constant, etc. We will learn how to operate a real (in the market) lock-in device.

Lock-in amplifiers are an indispensable tool for various solar cell characterization techniques. In this seminar, we will study its application to measuring quantum efficiency. We will describe the basics of this important characterization technique, explaining to new users how to avoid common mistakes (second-order filtering, placement of the chopper, quantitative analysis, etc.)
